Osaka karaki sashimono

 

Osaka karaki sashimono is one of Japaneae traditional woodwork.  It was imported from China 1200 years ago. Karaki means Chinese wood. The main crafts are box, desk, stand and shelf. But then, the woodwork was very rare and a few nobilites could use.

The kind of karaki is ebony tree , rosewood or bombay blackwood. These the countries of origin is Thailand and other Southeast Asia

Today, Osaka karaki sashimono  is made in Osaka, Himeji city(Hyogo Prefecture),  Nara city(Nara prefecture), Takefu city(hukui prefecture)
